John’s hometown of Seattle has some of the best conditions and coolest local crews. They wear drysuits all winter and wetsuits all summer, but they get more days on the water than most tropical locations. You can catch John at Jetty Island most days when it’s windy throwing down everything from low mobes to, in his words, “dangle freestyle” (we like to call these “high mobes”). He sums up the commitment of the local riders in his description of Jetty Island: “It’s always an adventure going out to Jetty Island, you have to row out over a small channel in a paddle boat and walk a quarter mile to the kite beach. But once there the wind is steady 14-10m and on a low tide has the best butter water around.
Local spots: Jetty Island Everett, Golden Gardens and Lake Washington in Seattle
Best thing about your local scene: Riding with all the local/friends that share the love for kiting, oh and mooching beers after a session. Because all of the Seattleites in the Northwest love their brews you know someone has a cooler close by.
Best session you've had this year: Jetty Island blowing 17 mph gusting 17 mph, knee deep butter water with all of your buddies hootin and hollering on the conditions with everyone pushing themselves. Best part though, getting back to the beach and realizing I lost my voice from screaming too much.
One thing you love about your NPX suit: Fits and goes on very smooth, so flexible it almost feels like you have no suit on even when wearing a 5/4 up in the cold Northwest.
Anything else you want to say? San Dimas High School Football Rules! (first thing that came to mind with this question) lol
